International interest in fiberglass greenhouse roof
AMSTERDAM, 12 JUNE 2019 – The team from Piet Bom Innovations has had a great deal of interest in its stand with its innovative fiberglass greenhouse roof at GreenTech in the RAI Amsterdam. Spokesperson René van Winden: “We have welcomed not only Dutch growers and greenhouse builders but also interested visitors from China, Japan, Korea and South America, and also a delegation from Qatar who are involved in the development of 350 hectare greenhouses.”
Advantages
The intention is for fiberglass (glass fiber-reinforced plastic) to be used instead of aluminium in the roof construction for new greenhouses. The main advantage is a significant reduction in CO2 emissions during the production process which, in the case of fiberglass, amounts to approximately 20% of the amount released during the production of aluminium. In addition, there are no so-called thermal bridges between the horizontal profiles such as the gutters, ridges and glazing bars. Fiberglass therefore prevents the persistent and detrimental formation of condensation. Fiberglass can be supplied in brilliant white, is glass-friendly and has a much lower shrinkage and elongation factor than aluminium.
